RecruitmentSuper delivers top quartile investment performance in low-cost structure

Focusing on the traditional asset classes has helped RecruitmentSuper achieve a net return of 11.0% for its EasyChoice Growth option and 10.6% for its SelectSuper Growth option it’s for the year to 30 June 2010, placing it amongst the top quartile of industry super funds with similar risk profiles.

Paul Kessell, the Fund’s Chief Investment Officer, said the strong performance is testament to the Fund’s clearly defined investment strategy and focus on risk management.

“We actively invest in a diversified portfolio of traditional exposures – in particular, equities and bonds - and generally avoid many of the more complex and unlisted assets that have proliferated across industry super fund portfolios in recent years,” he said.

Mr Kessell said that the strong result was achieved at a very low investment fees for its members.

“With an annual investment fee below 0.4%, the Fund was able to provide members with the dual benefit of strong performance at a fee level below the industry super fund average (of around 0.68%pa*). It proves that it is about having the right skills, process and investment governance, rather than the size of the fund, that are the critical factors,” he said.

Mr Kessell said RecruitmentSuper continues to monitor its investment strategy and manager mix.

“We’re constantly reviewing our portfolio to ensure that we respond to opportunities presented by the current macroeconomic environment whilst maintaining a long-term investment outlook,” he said.
