TFN notification - An easy option
Like many other members, you may have chosen not to notify us of your Tax File Number (TFN). Your member statement or Member Online Services account will show whether or not we already have it.
Although it is optional to provide your TFN, there may be consequences for you if we don't have it.
For example, if we don't have a record of your TFN, you may pay more superannuation tax than is required. You may be able to reclaim this overpayment through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), but you might consider it easier to provide your TFN to us.
Your TFN may also be used in the future to assist in tracking your benefits. There are many superannuation benefits whose owners are 'lost' because they have changed jobs or other circumstances. Providing your TFN to us now can create a strong link between you and your benefits, and may help you to trace your benefits in the future.
Providing your TFN is easy
You can provide your TFN via Member Online Services, or use our Tax File Number (TFN) Notification Form, available online, or simply by calling our Customer Service Centre on 1300 304 000.
Alternatively, you can authorise your employer to give us your TFN. Your employer is then obliged to pass on your TFN with your next super contribution.
What happens to your TFN?
You can be assured we will protect your TFN, and use it only for authorised superannuation purposes. This may include disclosing your TFN to the ATO or to another superannuation fund if you authorise a transfer to that fund.
